On Saturday 20th September 2025, a peal was rung at Keswick, to mark the 50th Anniversary of the first peal for the Carlisle Diocesan Guild.
The Guild at the time was called “The Cumberland and North Westmorland Association”, but due to the county changes in 1974 to form Cumbria, the decision was made to change the name to the Carlisle Diocesan Guild in 1975. The first peal for the new Guild was rung at Keswick on 20th September 1975 details of which are below:
To mark the occasion of the 50th Anniversary, a band of resident and prominent Guild members, including some current officers of the Guild came together, to ring a peal at the same tower, on the same day and with the same method. I thought it would be great to have one of our younger members of the Guild conducting, and Jayden Milby kindly agreed.
We are currently looking to organise a peal board at Keswick, showing both peals side by side to mark the occasion. Details of the anniversary peal are as follows and a photo of the band is included above.
Rung to mark the 50th anniversary, to the day, of the first peal for the Guild.
With the band’s best wishes to Norman Brock who rang in that peal and organised this one today.
