A party for Ron!

Ron’s Party

Members of the Tower at Carlisle Cathedral organised a surprise party for Ron East, last weekend, to mark his retirement after twelve years as Tower Captain at the Cathedral.

Ron has been a member of the Cathedral community for 39 years as a bellringer, a guide, member of the Cathedral Carliol Choir and administrator of the Outreach Project.

He has also served as the Diocesan Bell Advisor for the past 26 years, a role he continues to hold. This work has involved the restoration or new installation of bells at over 100 churches. Ron has also been awarded the British Empire Medal for his services to bellringing and bell restoration.

‘Ron has been an example to us all,’ said newly appointed Tower Captain David Steel, ‘he will be a hard act to follow!’
