What a fantastic morning ringing the Western Branch had on Saturday 23rd May. It was great to hear, not only good ringing, but the “buzz” of chatter from so many people between rings.
There were 22 ringers gathered in the tower of All Saints’ Church, Cockermouth. The ringers were aged from 10 to 80+ years and had a wide range of abilities from rounds to major methods. We were due to start at 10:30am, but by 10:15am we had enough ringers “champing at bit” that we started our session earlier than planned.
The bells were well used, boxes were juggled around the tower and people jostled together ensuring everyone had a go at ringing. It was fantastic to see so many ringers from the west ringing together and particularly encouraging to see 3 young ringers pulling the ropes. Having 6 of the western towers being represented makes me feel the West has a brighter future.
So looking forward to our ringing trip in July and a repeat ringing session in the Autumn.
Thank you all for supporting the event with such enthusiasm.
