SUMMARY:Bellringing Exhibition at Cathedral
DESCRIPTION:The Dean and Chapter of Carlisle Cathedral have graciously invited the Bellringers to organise a Bell exhibition within the Cathedral\, scheduled for four weeks from 15 May to 11 June – coinciding conveniently with school half-term holidays\, so good footfall is anticipated. This represents an excellent opportunity to introduce bell ringing to a wider public and attract new ringers. \nIt is planned to incorporate the ‘Borders Mini Bells’ for demonstration purposes. Knowledgeable ringers from across the Diocese are welcome to be part of this exhibition – to engage with visitors and share expertise. Historical tower artefacts\, including a wheel\, clapper\, ropes\, and two bells—one tuned and one untuned—will be displayed for technical illustration. Informative literature and certificates will be distributed throughout\, with experienced ringers available to answer questions and discuss the art of bellringing. \nThe exhibition display will include a large monitor continuously running a presentation on bell ringing\, accompanied by a recording of bells ringing via a Raspberry Pi. Display panels will include ones showcasing photos and documents detailing the 1925 restoration of the Cathedral bells; the millennium bells installation; and the ‘Tale of Two Bells’. There will be a timeline showing the evolution of bells in churches from 1400 to the present day. \n

There are the usual two competitions – the Call Change Band and the Method Band competition. All bands are expected to ring something of a similar complexity to what they would normally ring together. It is expected that the Call Change band contains at least one ringer that has not rung a quarter peal (on any working bell\, including the treble). \nThe competition is just for fun – it’s the taking part that matters! Unless you win – then it’s the winning that matters! SUMMARY:10th Anniversary - March ringing meeting & Walk at Barrow
DESCRIPTION:March 9th 2024 marks the 10th anniversary of the rededication service for the bells at St James Barrow after the restoration project. To celebrate the LACR Furness & South Lakeland branch will hold their March ringing meeting on that day at Barrow.  Ringers from CDGCBR will be very welcome to join them to ring and at a meal afterwards. Andy Pollock is also planning a “meandyring” walk locally in the morning. Everyone is welcome and it will be especially pleasing if some of those involved in the project could join in. DESCRIPTION:** Please note:  all replies to tony.ruberry@gmail.com **\n\nThe next Cumbrian Codgers trip will be on Thursday 19th October to the south Lake District.  The itinerary in outline is:\n10:00 – 11:00 St Michael Hawkshead\n11:30 – 12:30 – Holy Trinity\, Brathay\n12:45 – 14:45 – Lunch in the Talbot Bar\, Skelwith Bridge\n15:15 – 16:15 St Mary\, Ambleside\n\nPlease note that we have been asked for somewhat larger donations than usual\, so I will be asking for £2 per tower.  Since it has been £1 for such a long time\, I think that this is reasonable.  Please bring change if possible!\nWe will need to pre-order lunches.  The menu can be found here:\nhttps://www.skelwithbridgehotel.co.uk/talbot-bar/food/\nNote that some things on the main menu are only available from 5:00 p.m. but that ciabatta baguettes are available at lunchtime.  Let me know if you will be coming on the outing\, and also\, if you want to join us for lunch\, please let me have orders by Wednesday 11th October.\nI hope to see you then\, and please remember to reply to me and not David!\nTony
